Dock replacement project
In August, activities at the Dee Campbell Rowing Center were
suspended for a few weeks so the floating dock could be replaced.
This project is part of the Alexandria Public School's capital
improvements plan, and has been in the planning stage for a long time.
Now that it's completed, we have a modern launch dock that will provide
greater safety and security with low maintenance.
Because we're located on a tidal river, it's necessary to have dock
that can move freely up and down. The launch dock is reached by
four ramps extending from the boat bays to floating extensions that were
added a few years ago when the dock was first extended farther into the
river. This was necessary to get the launch dock far enough to get
past the sediment and other deposits that can make it hard to launch at
low tide. The new section is made of polyethylene and provides a sturdy
and slip-resistant surface. Sections of the old launch dock are
being moved into position where they will provide added dock space for
our launches.
Here are some photos from the morning of August 16:

rolling the launches out of the water, and the dock for the wakeless
launch with retractable gangplank.
