Frequently Asked Questions

  •  Are scholarships available?
    • Yes, partial scholarships are available to those with financial need.
  •  Do I have to take swim test?
    • All rowers must take the swim test unless they have taken a swim test before with Alexandria Crew Boosters (ACB) in the current calendar year.
  • What is included in the swim test?
    • 2 laps continuous swimming
    • Treading water for 2 minutes
  •  Do I need a VHSL (Virginia High School League) physical?
    • No, your VHSL physical should be on file at your school if you have done a sport before. If not, the parent can sign off that the rower is healthy enough to participate since our fall crew program is not affiliated with any one school. We urge all rowers interested in spring crew or sports to get their physicals done and on file early to avoid problems later!
  • What happens if the program is full?
    • Alexandria Crew Boosters will maintain a waiting list for rowers who are interested and let them know if a space becomes available.
  • Can my 7th grader participate in spring competitive season?
    • Unfortunately, no. Fall Crew is offered through Alexandria Crew Boosters and therefore not under the guidance of school policy. Spring Crew is sponsored by Alexandria City Public Schools. Virginia school rules permit 8th graders and above to participate in high school sports. Your 7th grader may join us again next summer to hone his/her skills and then continue onto spring sports. For other ideas about activities that will strengthen and support rowing, we suggest swimming, running, ‘ERG-ing’ and core building exercises.
  • Is there bus transportation for my rower?
    • Alexandria Crew Boosters is working to obtain school bus transportation for your rower, but it is not secured at this time. We will notify you of the final decision before the start of the fall program.
